Mint NYC was founded by Mike Allan who is a rare New York City construction kid. At fifteen, his parents encouraged him to get a summer job and suggested he reach out to a family friend across the street—a high-end general contractor. That summer marked the beginning of a lifelong career in craftsmanship.

He started at the ground level: sweeping floors and cleaning up after tradesmen across luxury townhouse renovations. His early days were spent assisting carpenters in the workshop, picking up materials, filling nail holes for custom furniture builders, caulking freshly installed moldings, stripping century-old paint from cast-iron radiators, and sanding stair balusters by hand. Through raw, hands-on experience, he learned the building trade from the ground up.

He continued working construction every summer through high school. Following a brief period in university, the pull of the job site proved undeniable, and he returned to the industry full-time. Despite the physical demands, long hours, and grueling conditions, he found the work deeply rewarding, developing a lifelong appreciation for the master craftspeople who mentored him.

After years of honing his skills alongside exceptionally talented tradespeople, he launched his own construction company.

Now in its tenth year of operation, the business is built on a foundation of hard-earned experience. Facing the inevitable challenges, setbacks, and steep learning curves of entrepreneurship only served to strengthen both his leadership and his team’s capabilities.
